The Fly Room Project will be full reconstruction of the lab containing hundreds of milk bottles filled with fruit flies, vintage microscopes, swirling bananas from the ceiling but also original documents and drawings from the scientists including index cards with mutant fly drawings, Science published articles from the 1920s and more. On a the brick walls, we will also be projecting reenactments of events in The Fly Room and macroscopic imagery of fruit flies.
Haunting voices of the daughters of the scientists from the lab will animate the room The public will peer into warped milk bottles at the flies that were instrumental in all our understanding about genes and chromosomes. We also plan to show archival videos in this space as well.
In parallel, an ongoing exhibit at Cold Spring Harbor about Fly Room resident Calvin Bridges until March 2013 followed afterwards with an online CSHL exhibit.
